Buzzy the Bee with local kids at Carrick Hill in April of 2019.
BEE BABIES SHOW
Become a bee baby and join Buzzy the Bee as she helps your child find their wings in the luscious gardens of Carrick Hill. In this adventure they will learn about bees, bee plants, gather some pollen and nectar and do the waggle dance!
Around the world, insect numbers are in decline. This includes the pollination group of bees, butterflies, hoverflies, mosquitoes, wasps, and moths. Humankind is also becoming disconnected from nature. This means that we decreasingly understand and care little for the processes of nature. As two-thirds of the world’s food comes from plants that need pollination, the survival of insects, and particularly bees, is one we cannot ignore.
Show writer and performer Tracey Davis, whose recent Honours degree included an examination of the plight of the bee, says “What better way for children to reconnect to the natural world and the helpful bee than through an interactive experience where they get to see the world through a bee’s eyes?”
She adds “This show seeks to help tomorrow’s custodians of the earth re-acquaint themselves with nature through education and entertainment. It’s going to be a fun show, with children learning a little bit about what it’s like to be a bee, and they can dress up as bees or even flowers if they like.”
Parents and caregivers are also encouraged to take part as their children fly amongst the gardens.
Bee Babies will be returning later for the Adelaide Fringe. The show can be booked for junior primary schools or pre-schools and is tailored to suit the age group.

Tracey Davis
Tracey is a recent graduate from UniSA in Honours for Art and Design (Communication Design) in 2018. As part of her final project, Tracey studied how to communicate messages about sustainability to others via storytelling. Between 2010 and 2019 Improkids have created original new stories for children in the lush gardens of Carrick Hill, on the Popeye and at the Maritime Museum. Often they have included messages about sustainability for children. Bee Babies has been created to talk about nature and insects with children due to the issues that humanity are currently facing. With 12 years experience in improv theatre and 10 years in experimental children’s theatre, Tracey and Eugene have created a story that should educate children whilst entertaining them and nurturing their creative spirits and love of the wild.
Tracey is an illustrator, graphic designer and artist who works specifically with the community in performative arts and in placemaking activities that seek to develop community in our neighbourhoods.
